Oils on canvas panel - 16 x 12 inches

We had a decent fall of snow over several days, so taking advantage of a really sunny day I was walking above my village studio, taking lost of shots and some video that might be used for future paintings, as well as a short Youtube video perhaps

One of the many photographs I took that day was this scene looking into a woodland glade. Strong sun was lighting up the near snow with deep shadows further in. I just loved the play of dark and light, warm and cool tones so even when I took the image, I just knew I would paint it at some point and so it proved. The painting iteself is loose and impressonistic with lots of impasto and splattering of paint
