Rockcliffe church spire stands dark against the strong morning sunlight

This iconic village lays adjacent to the Rockcliffe salt marsh at Sandsfield where the mighty River Eden joins the solway firth a little further downstream. This is one of my favourite places to paint, I love the wild desolate landscape which can be so bleak and intimidating, yet it experiences some amazing light shows and becomes a thing of real beauty.
